President Talabani supports Province’s demand for independent Region – delegation

SALAH AL-DIN / IraqiNews.com: A delegation from Salah al-Din Province that conferred with Iraq’s President, Jalal Talabani, on Monday, has reiterated that the Iraqi President had expressed support for the Province Council’s decision to transform the Province into an independent “Region,” promising to implement the Constitution’s measures towards formation of independent Regions, within the unity of the country. “Salah al-Din’s Delegation had explained for the President the circumstances the Province had been suffering and the background of its announcement as a Region, due to the willingness of its inhabitants, as well as the constitutional measures in this respect,” Member of Salahal-Din Province‘s Council, Adel Abul-Salam al-Sumeida’e told IraqiNews.com news agency. He said: “the President had expressed understanding and support for the decision of Salahal-Din’s Council and people, being a constitutional and legal right, confirming that he would send a message to the Prime Minister, in order to activate the special measures, according to the Constitution, promising to announce his clear attitude towards the issue in the mass media.” A high-level delegation, representing the legislative and executive authorities, as well as legislatures from Salah al-Din Province, have formed a delegation to confer with the President, regarding the constitutional measures to announce Salah al-Din Province as an independent Region, administratively and economically.
