Shabak, Yazidis can object to provincial representation – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The h ead of the Regions and Provinces Committee in the Iraqi Parliament on Monday said that Shabak and Yazidi lawmakers can submit an objection to the federal court, if the amended provincial elections law does not fulfill their rights, explaining that voting on the law occurred in a transparent way. “The council of representatives today voted on an amendment to replace article 50 of the provincial elections law,” lawmaker Hashim al-Taee told IraqiNews.com. “Legislatures had to choose among three options, but 106 out of the 150 who attended the voting session voted for one seat for minorities in each of the councils of Baghdad, Ninewa, and Basra provinces,” he said. “Shabak and Yazidi lawmakers can object to the voting process, if they feel any unjust,” he added.
