Shewani: Parliament performance not satisfactory

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Klahid Shewani, of the Kurdistani Alliance criticized the performance of the parliament for “being not satisfactory in its legislative and supervisory role due to the political disputes among the political blocs.”

He stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “On the legislative level, there are many law drafts that need to be endorsed such as the Federal Court law draft,” noting that “All these law drafts had to be endorsed by the parliament before starting its second term.”

“In spite of setting the artistic and legal procedures for those law drafts by the Committees but the political disputes resulted in delaying them,” he added.

“For the supervising level, the parliament could not investigate the ministers only if they were neglectful,” he pointed out.

In indirect defense against accusing parliament of being failuer, the office of the First Deputy Speaker, Qusai al-Sihail, announced that “The parliament endorsed about eighty seven law drafts during its current term.”

The head of the Sihail’s media office, Haider Hamada, stated in a press statement “The parliament has endorsed about eighty seven law drafts in its second year of this term in addition to that the first and second readings of many other law drafts were done.”
