Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Deputy Premier for the Energy Affairs, Hussein al-Shihristani, appealed Indonesia to interfere to stop violence and massacres against the Muslims in Burma.

A statement by Shihristani’s office received by IraqiNews.com on Wednesday cited “Shihristani received the Indonesian ambassador to Iraq, Safzin Nour al-Din, where they discussed the mutual relations especially in the energy field.”

“Shihristani expressed the concerns of the government over the violence against the Burmese Muslims, calling Indonesia to play a regional role to stop the massacres against them through South-East Asia Organization,” the statement added.

“For his part, the Indonesian ambassador expressed the concern of the Indonesian government over those massacres,” the statement pointed out.

“At the end of the meeting, the Indonesian ambassador stated that his government appreciates Shihristani’s last visit to Indonesia, describing it as a historical visit due to the suspension of the Iraqi officials to visit Indonesian 20 years ago,” the statement concluded.
