Sihail, UN delegation discuss local elections of Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Qusai al-Sihail, discussed with the delegation of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, UNAMI headed by the Assistant Chief of the Mission, George Bosten, the provincial elections conducted on last Saturday in Iraq.

The media office of Sihail reported on Tuesday “Sihail received at his office in Baghdad a delegation from the UNAMI where they discussed the political situation in Iraq and the region.”

Sihail highlighted “the importance of the local elections as it was conducted under Iraq’s full responsibility for first time after the withdrawal of the foreign forces from Iraq where the Iraqis demonstrated their full grasp for the democracy principle.”

“For his part, Bosten hoped the local elections will develop the democracy in Iraq, urging to conduct the upcoming parliamentary elections in its specified date, ” the statement concluded.
