SIIC chief discusses with AL envoy developments in Iraq

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) Abdulaziz al-Hakim on Wednesday discussed with the Arab League envoy to Iraq Ambassador Hani Khalaf the latest developments in the country. “Al-Hakim, who is also the head of the (Shiite) United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), received the ambassador and discussed with him the latest developments in Iraq and the Arab League’s role to boost Arab relations with Iraq,” the SIIC said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com. The ambassador for his part, asserted that the AL will continue its efforts to increase the Arab diplomatic representation in Iraq. The Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) (previously known as Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)) is an Iraqi political party. Its political support comes from the country’s Shiite Muslim community. Prior to his assassination in August 2003, the council was led by Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Hakeem; its current leader is the ayatollah’s brother, Abdulaziz al-Hakim. SH (S) 1
