Sistani supports holding Arab Summit in Baghdad, Arab League’s SG says

NAJAF / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s Supreme Religious Authority, Ali al-Sistani, supports holding the next Arab Summit in Baghdad, the Arab League’s Secretary General, Amru Moussa, said on Monday. “My meeting with Sayid Ali al-Sistani was not my first meeting with him, to listen to his opinions and guidance, because he possesses a great experience in all fields, especially in the political aspect, which has succeeded in bringing together different political formations,” Moussa said. “Sistani expressed his support for holding the next Arab Summit in Baghdad,” he added. With regards to Iraq‘s relations with Saudi Arabia, Moussa denied “the existence of any animosity between Iraq and any other Arab state,” expecting “an active presence of Arab leaders in the next Arab Summit,” reiterating that “the decision to hold the Summit in Baghdad is constant, according to the Arab League’s principles that confirm the holding of the Summit in Baghdad.” Amru Moussa had arrived in Baghdad last Saturday on a visit aimed at getting acquainted with Iraq‘s preparations to host the Arab Summit in Baghdad and had met leading Iraqi officials, including the President, his two vice-presidents, the Prime Minister, his two deputy-Prime Ministers, the Foreign Minister and several other ministers and members of Parliament.
