Solution to water problem to come after elections – Turkish Parl.

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Both the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi and his Turkish counterpart Mohammed Ali Shaheen agreed to end Iraqi water share within a bilateral agreement after the Turkish general elections, as mentioned in a statement issued by Nujaifi’s office.  “There is a real desire to solve the water question by the Turkish side,” the statement added.  “Both sides discussed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them ,” the statement noted.   The statement elaborated that a bilateral agreement was to be signed to determine the Iraqi share in the waters of the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers.  Shaheen stressed the importance of bilateral relation due to ancient historical ties, and the security of Iraq is important to the security of Turkey, as stated in the statement.  “What the Iraqis are doing to consolidate the democratic system is not only the concern of the Iraqis, but it will be a model to establish democratic system in other countries,” Shaheen said.
