Some MPs show reservation towards UNAMI’s role in forming new IHEC, says Nusayif

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Aliya Nusayif, of the Hurra Iraqiya bloc confirmed that “A number of MPs showed reservation towards the role of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Iraq in forming the new Council of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission.”

She confirmed in a statement “UNAMI divided the members of the Commissioners Council among Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish communities rather than according to the electoral merits.”

“Despite the fact that the role of UNAMI is advisory to consolidate the unity among the Iraqis instead of forming the independent commission on communal basis,” she added.

“UNAMI’s wrong tendencies urged us to be reserved over its performance and role in forming the new IHEC,” she concluded.
