Suhail stresses importance of UN’s role, supervision on elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The First Deputy Speaker, Qusai al-Suhail, stressed on the importance of the UN’s role and supervision on the election to fix the international standards and help the new Independent High Electoral Commission in the artistic issues.

A statement by Suhail’s office received by IraqiNews.com on Thursday cited “Suhail discussed with the delegation of UNAMI that is headed by the head of the advisors of the elections within UNAMI, the issue of forming the IHEC and nominating its members after reaching the last phases in addition to the modification of the law draft of the elections.”

“Suhail assured the importance of expediting nominating the new board of the Commissioners of the IHEC to do its tasks in the next elections where most of the countries consider Iraq as one of the developed countries in practicing democracy because it has the IHEC,” the statement added.

The statement quoted Suhail, as saying “The role and supervision of the UN on the elections is required in order to fix the national standards and help the new IHEC.”

“For its part, the delegation expressed its readiness to expedite settling the issue of the IHEC and nominate its members to have the elections held on time,” the statement concluded.
