Sunni MP accuses Sadrists of following regional agenda

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A legislator from the Sunni Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) bloc on Saturday accused Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr’s movement of following a regional agenda, welcoming the Iraqi-U.S. security pact if it would “protect Iraq from an Iranian occupation”. “Those who demonstrated in Sadr city represent nothing but a regional agenda they advocate either on purpose or unintentionally,” Taha al-Lehebi said, commenting on today’s Sadrist demonstration in Baghdad. “I believe that Iran occupies Iraq before the U.S.,” he said. “The pact is considered a sort of interest, if it accomplishes sovereignty and protects Iraq from Iranian interference,” he added. “Most of the lawmakers have no idea about the content of the agreement, but if it would protect Iraq from the Iranian interference, then we will welcome it,” he noted.
