Syrian FM: Syria welcomes Iraqi proposal over Syrian crisis

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Syrian Foreign Minister, Waleed al-Mulem, discussed the Syrian crisis.

A statement by Iran Official News Agency cited “Maliki and Mulem conducted their talks on the margins of Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Tehran,” noting that “Mulem confirmed that Syria welcomes the Iraqi proposal which called to form a group of NAM members to settle the Syrian crisis.”

“Both sides reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries in addition to the Iraqi proposal over Syria,” the statement added.

Earlier, Maliki called in his speech during NAM Summit to take a unified stance to stop the blood shedding in Syria and to prevent the critical consequences of the armed clashes.

Maliki assured that “The Iraqi stance which was taken during the Arab Summit in Baghdad remained the same concerning stressing the political solution of the Syrian crisis through the dialogue between the Syrian Government and the Opposition.”
