Tayib: Parliamentary Committee suggests increasing members of IHEC

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliamentary Committee formed to nominate the members of the Independent High Electoral Commission revealed submitting a request to the parliament chairmanship to increase the candidates of the IHEC.

The rapporteur of the Committee MP, Muaed al-Tayib, of the Kurdistani Alliance stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “The Committee decided to amend a special item in the law draft of the IHEC which is about increasing the candidates from nine to thirteen to make a fair balance for all the people constitutes with representation of women in two or three candidates.”

“In the meeting of the Committee the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler has attended, we did not deal over the mechanism of distributing the seats in the way that every constituent will be represented,” he added.

“During the meeting, Kobler assured that the nomination of the members of the IHEC will be by majority where all the constituents are presented in order to grant legitimate to it,” he concluded.
