Thousands of Iraqi detainees confined inside prisons unlawfully, says MP

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Zainab al-Sahlani, member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed presence of thousands of inmates in the Iraqi prisons who were arrested unlawfully and they were victims of the confidential informants.

Sahlani stated to IraqiNews.com “There are thousands of detainees who were victims of the secret informants and the malicious lawsuits,” noting that “The Iraqi judiciary issues from to time a release warrants for many inmates but they were not released for unknown reasons.”

“The Iraqi prisons do not follow the international laws of human rights,” she added referring that “Our Committee conducted field visits to the prisons and observed the violations practiced against them through using harsh punishments such as physical beating and psychological oppression,” she concluded.
