Turkey denounces Wednesday attacks in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attacks happened in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces on last Wednesday.

A statement by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited “We have learned with deep sorrow that, according to initial reports, dozens of people lost their lives and many others were injured as a result of the terrorist attacks perpetrated today (13 June) in Iraq’s capital city Baghdad and also in Karbala, Hilla, Mosul, Kirkuk, Tikrit, Baquba, Balad, Fallujah and Samawa.”

The statement continued “We strongly condemn these heinous terrorist attacks targeting the peace and stability of our neighbor Iraq, wish God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in these attacks, convey our condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded.”

“The fact that our Iraqi Shiite brothers and their sacred places of worship were particularly targeted in these attacks, which appear to have been perpetrated during the inauguration of the remembrance ceremonies of martyrdom Imam Moussa al-Kadhim, obviously indicates that malicious groups, which target Iraq’s unity and social peace, aim to instigate a sectarian clash in the country. We strongly believe that the people of Iraq will nullify the efforts of these groups by acting with common sense and moderation,” the statement added.

“Regardless of its source every terrorist attack is a major crime against humanity. As it has always been the case, Turkey will continue to be in solidarity with the friendly and brotherly people of Iraq in fighting terrorism,” the statement concluded.

Baghdad and other provinces witnessed attacks with car bombs, Improvised Explosive Devices, on last Wednesday.

According to statistics for (IraqiNews.com), the death toll reached 354 deaths and injuries half of them were from the pilgrims in thirty bombings in nine provinces most of them were in the capital Baghdad.

An official source mentioned that “The death toll of the bombings that took place in Baghdad and some other provinces hit 83 deaths and 274 injuries.”
