UNAMI welcomes reaching agreement between FG, Kurdistan RegionG over Kurdistan Region oil exports

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, welcomed reaching agreement between the Federal Government and the Kurdistani Regional Government over resuming the oil exports from Kurdistan Region.

In a statement by his office received by IraqiNews.com, Kobler said “Iraq needs investments and security and I hope that solving this long-term dispute will open the horizon towards legislating the Oil and Gas Law.”

He added “According to this agreement, the dues of the oil companies will be paid,” stressing that “Iraq is the biggest oil producing country within OPEC where the oil industry is the essential base for the Iraqi economy.”

“Now, UNAMI has a new established team ready to perform a neutral role to support the Iraqi Government concerning the oil and gas program,” he concluded.
