UNHCR worried over displacing Christians in Mosul

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees on Friday said that it is concerned over the reported displacement of more than 9,000 Iraqi Christians from Mosul city, confirming that it needs to provide them with urgent aid, according to a UNHCR release. “The Iraqi ministry of emigration and emigrants estimates 1,560 Christian families, or around 9,360 Christians, fled Mosul city,” read the release as received by IraqiNews.com. “The UNHCR was unable to confirm those numbers,” it added. “The organization distributed aid on 802 displaced Christian families, or 4,800 persons, during last week,” it noted. “The number of displaced Christian families in Mosul city may exceed 1,500 at the beginning of next week,” it asserted, attributing this issue to “threats and fears”.
