UNSC Resolution lifting sanctions against Iraq great achievement – Cleric

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The UN Security Council’s resolution, issued on Wednesday, which has lifted UN-imposed sanctions on Iraq has been described as a “great achievement” by the chairman of Southern Iraq‘s Religious Clerics, Sheikh Khalid al-Mulla. “The said resolution is considered a great success achieved by Iraq. It has gotten Iraq out of the 7th Article, which has restored its full sovereignty,” Mulla told IraqiNews.com news agency, calling on all Iraqis to “join forces and be serious in forming their new government, away from selfish demands that won’t end, so long as some forces concentrate of cabinet posts only.” Mulla called on all Iraqi political forces to “consider the said resolution, as a new national victory achieved by all Iraqis. And we hope that the Iraqi diplomacy would succeed to restore Iraq to its natural situation among other world states and nations.” The United Nations Security Council decided to cancel all sanctions imposed on Iraq after invading Kuwait in 1990.The Council also voted to restore control of Iraq’s oil and natural gas revenue to the its government on June 30, 2011, and to terminate all remaining activities of the oil-for-food program which ran from 1996-2003 and helped ordinary Iraqis cope with sanctions.
