US delegation assures US support to parliament

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Deputy Speaker, Arif Tayfour, discussed with the new US Deputy Consul, Kristin Lustin, the latest updates of the region and Syria.

A statement by Tayfour’s office received by IraqiNews.com on Thursday, cited “Tayfour received Lustin at his office in Baghdad where he assured that the parliament aims to continue its sessions to accomplish its legislative and executive duties in spite of the current political disputes.”

“Tayfour confirmed that the parliament will vote on some important law drafts such as the law draft of the Independent High Electoral Commission, the Federal Court and the Supreme Judicial Council,” the statement added.

The statement pointed out “For her part, Lustin, assured the support of the US government to the Iraqi parliament,” noting that “The White House is acquainted with the political process in Iraq and wishes to settle the current crisis though dialogue.”

“The two sides agreed to increase the efforts to strengthen the mutual relations in order to serve the benefits of the two countries,” the statement concluded.
