US rejects forming Emergency Government in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The United States expressed its refusal to form an emergency government in Iraq and called for speeding up the formation of an inclusive government as soon as possible.

The spokeswoman for State Department, Marie Harf said in a press conference that the U.S did not support the formation of a temporary emergency government because it is “a process separate from the framework of the constitution.”

Harf added: “Naturally, we do not support (the formation of an emergency government), which was rejected by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, as well.” She pointed out that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has confirmed to U.S Secretary of State, John Kerry the Iraqi government’s commitment to form new government according to the constitution and what was resulted from the parliamentary elections.

The U.S. spokeswoman confirmed the need for the formation of “an inclusive government in accordance with the constitutional process as soon as possible,” saying that “this is what Iraq needs now.” Harf refused to confirm the reports of military aid from Iran and Syria to Iraq, and called on Iraq’s neighbors “not to inflame extremism and sectarian divisions.
