Wassit local elections campaign starts

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The candidates of different political blocs in Wassit started on Tuesday their elections campaigns to compete on the Wassit provincial council’s seats, an official source said. “The 1219 candidates started today their elections campaigns for the coming local elections,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The law allows for the candidates of the blocs approved by the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to start their elections campaigns on December ,” he added. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
