11,000 donums reclaimed in southern Kut

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Nearly 11,000 donums of agricultural land in southern Kut city have been reclaimed at a cost of $51.75 million, a local official said on Sunday. “Technical teams and engineers from the department have reclaimed 11,000 donums (1 donum = 2,500 square meters) of land in Sheikh Saad district with a completion period of 18 months,” a source from the Water Resources Department in Wassit province told IraqiNews.com. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SS (P)/SR 1
