ID1.5b Euphrates canal drainage works finalized

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The water resources ministry on Monday said it finalized works on the eastern canal drainage of the river Euphrates in al-Muthanna province, a project worth more than 1.5 billion Iraqi dinars (ID) that aims to lower subterranean water level. “Technicians and engineers of the Iraq state company for implementing irrigation ventures finalized the 261-km-long project to mainly address the problem of saline on the lands between al-Hilla coast and the left bank of the Euphrates river to include the provinces of Babel, Najaf, Diwaniya, Muthanna and Thi-Qar over an area of 750,000 donums,” read a ministry statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency.
