Iraqi delegation heads to Damascus over railroad project

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi delegation will soon visit the Syrian capital to facilitate the procedures for the launch of a railroad that links the two countries, a ministry statement said on Tuesday. “The visit comes following a phone call between the Iraqi minister of transportation, Amer Abduljabbar, and his Syrian counterpart, Yarab Sulayman Badr,” according to a statement released by the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. An agreement has been reached to hold a meeting in Damascus over the issue, the statement noted. On April 28, Abduljabbar said that a new railroad that links Iraq to Syria will be launched on June 1 to facilitate freight transfer from southern Europe to the Persian Gulf. SS (P) 1
