Iraq’s water scene “tragic” – expert

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The water situation in Iraq is tragic, according to an Iraqi water resources ministry advisor, expressing zero optimism over farming in the Euphrates river basin. “The ministry has asked the cabinet to intervene and address the Turkish side that promised to let water run in the country, particularly after the recent visit paid by the Turkish president to Iraq,” Mohammed Dari was quoted in a ministry release received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The statements were made during a joint meeting of the agriculture and water resources ministries to discuss the agricultural plan for the summer season of 2009,” read the statement.
