Kurdish MP: issue of exporting oil to Turkey, exaggerated

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Qasim Mohamed of the Kurdistani Alliance described the issue of exporting crude oil from Kurdistan Region to Turkey as “exaggerated”. He added “What the Kurdistan Regional Government does is exporting crude oil to Turkey in exchange for receiving oil products especially of diesel that is needed to run the electricity stations in the Region because the Federal Government reduced the Region’s share of oil from 40,000 barrels to 16,000 barrels.” Mohamed pointed out “We cannot judge this action’s legality due to absence of Oil and Gas Law but if resorting to the Constitutional articles, I think that they would allow such action.” The Advisor in the Kurdistan Region Ministry of Natural Resources, Sirwan Abu Bakr, has announced, on last Sunday, the “start of exporting crude oil from Kurdistan Region to Turkey a few days ago in limited quantities for the purpose of obtaining oil products and if necessary the Region will export oil to Iran.” The Council of Ministers has considered in an urgent session exporting oil to Turkey as illegal, stressing that Turkey should not permit it.
