Maysan demands Oil Ministry to pay revenues of Majnoun oil field

Maysan (IraqiNews.com) The Provincial Council of Maysan province demanded the Oil Ministry to pay the share of the province from the oil revenue of Majnoun oil field.

Chairman of Maysan PC, Abdul Hussein Ridha, stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) Friday “We demanded the Oil Ministry to pay the share of Maysan province from the oil revenues within the Petro-Dollar program, incurred from Majnoun Oil Field, because this field is associated between Maysan and Basra provinces according to maps adopted by the Oil Ministry.”

“33% of this huge oil field is located within borders of Maysan province but it is invested by the Southern Oil Company in Basra,” he added.

Majnoun Oil Field, which was discovered by the Brazilian Brasitro Company in 1975, is located in Basra province in eastern part of Iraq but it extends northward towards Maysan province.

Works stopped in the field since 1980 due to the Iraq-Iran War.
