No Chinese milk in Iraq – Trade Ministry

Iraq-Trade BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The committee formed by the Trade Ministry under the general inspector to follow up recent claims about the distribution of Chinese milk powder in Iraq found that there are no indications regarding the importation or distribution of the milk, the media adviser of the Trade Ministry said on Wednesday. “The committee ensured that there is no Chinese milk which is contaminated with melamine,” Mohamed Hannoun told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Chinese government has discovered that at least 10 percent of the milk and powdered milk produced by the three largest dairy producers in China has been contaminated with the chemical melamine. Officials suspect that the milk was first watered down, and then the chemical added to have it appear higher in nitrogen.   SH (P)/SR 1
