Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliamentary Committee of Oil and Energy assured that it is working to issue a decision from the Parliament to force the Ministry of Electricity to offer developing the electricity sector through investment.

Member of the Oil and Energy Committee MP Suzan al-Saad stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) Friday “Members of the Committee held several meetings and discussions with the Ministry of Electricity to realize the problems that face developing this important sector but we got only promises which were not implemented.”

“We also noticed that the Provincial Councils show a lot of cooperation in order to provide electricity for the citizens but the results are still below ambitions so we work to force the Ministry of Electricity to allow investments in the provinces like the situation in Kurdistan Region,” she added asking to “Allocate suitable financial funds and grant wider authorities for the local governments to provide this necessary service.”

“Many foreign companies which are willing to invest in energy field have complained of many hurdles such as difficulty of issuing residency permits in Iraq for their labors and engineers,” according to MP Saad.

She clarified “We work with the Legal Committee in Parliament to draft a law project over investment in power that would grant more authorities for the local governments in order to provide electricity for citizens and facilitate the procedures for the foreign companies willing to develop energy sector in Iraq.”
