Parliamentary committee welcomes resumption of oil exports in Kurdistan

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee has welcomed what it described as a step by the Kurdistan Regional Government Kurdistan RegionG) to resume oil exports through its pipelines. “The Kurdistan RegionG’s declaration that it will soon resume oil exports is a correction of a previous mistake…,” MP Abdulhadi al-Hassani told IraqiNews.com news agency, in reference to the regional government’s previous decision to halt oil exports. Hassani has called on the northern government to reconsider its stance on the oil contracts signed with international firms. In mid-October 2009, the minister of oil in the Kurdistan government, Ashti Horami, announced a halt to oil exports in the region following disputes with the central government over a mechanism to pay foreign companies operating there.
