Power generated from Turkish ships goes to Basra province only, says Aftan

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of electricity Karim Aftan assured that “The electricity power generated by the Turkish ships which are anchored in ports of Khour al-Zubair, Um Qasir and Abu Filous are allocated to Basra province only.”

In a statement received by Iraqi News, Aftan said Friday “We realize the suffering of the People in Basra province due to high temperature and humidity, so we will not cut the power of the Turkish ships from the province although the agreement concluded between the Ministry and Basra Provincial Council has been delayed by the Ministry of Finance.”

“We have agreed to provide Basra province with power from the Turkish ships for seven months starting from April till next October and the PC will finance this agreement from the share of the Province of the Petro-Dollar project,” the statement quoted Aftan as saying, noting that “The Finance Ministry did not transfer the funds from the share of Basra province to the account of Electricity Ministry despite commitment of the Ministry to provide Basra with this extra power since April 1st.”
The statement mentioned that “The power provided to Basra province from the total National Grid’s production in addition to production of the ships exceeded 1150 MW with a rate of 12 hours on per day.”
