Project to electrify 22 villages in Arbil

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Kurdistan region’s electricity ministry has allocated 1 billion Iraqi dinars for a project to electrify 22 villages in the area of Ashti, Kouya district, according to a Kurdish official. “A local company will embark on the project early next month in Ashti, (28 km) east of Kouya, where there are power problems as local residents rely on generators to get electricity,” the director of the Kouya electricity department, Loqman Huweiz, told IraqiNews.com. “In the first stage of the project, the district’s center will be electrified and later on 22 villages will be electrified,” he added. Kouya, a famous tourist site, lies 73 km southeast of the city of Arbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, 364 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
