All Iraqis in Japan in good shape after tremor, Embassy says

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – All Iraqis, registered with the Iraqi Embassy in Japan, are in good shape, despite the emergency situation in Japan that followed the huge earthquake that hit the country on March 12 th , the Iraqi Embassy in Tokyo said on Monday.   “Due to the emergency situation passing through Japan after the destructive earthquake that hit the country on March 12 th , the Embassy had contacted all members of the Iraqi community, registered by it, to ensure their safety. They were all in good shape,” an Iraqi Embassy statement, a copy of which landed in Iraqi News on Monday, said.   The statement added that the Embassy had “prepared an emergency plan, through coordination with the Japanese Foreign Ministry, in order to secure active communication channels with members of the Iraqi community in Japan, to guarantee their safety, amid the current risks.”   “The Embassy had received a telephone call from Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshiar Zibary, to make sure of the safety of the Iraqi community and the Iraqi diplomatic cadre in Japan,” the statement stressed.   Several Japanese cities were struck by a destructive earthquake, with 8.9 degrees on Richter record last Friday, followed by a Tsunami. A series of tremors followed, which have hit the country over the past 2 days, killing and wounding thousands of people, whilst the Japanese Kyodo News Agency had reported that about 2,000 corpses were found on the territorial waters of Miagi city, northeast of Japan.   SKH (TR)/SR 1071
