Iraq’s Parliament approves establishment of “Directorate-General for Christian Syriac Education.”

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Parliament has approved in its Tuesday session the establishment of a Directorate-General for Christian Syriac Education, to be included in the Education Ministry’s Law,” the Chairman of the Christian Rafidain Bloc in the Parliament, Younadim Kanna said.   “The Parliament has approved in its Tuesday session the establishment of a Directorate-General for Syriac Education, within the Iraqi Education Ministry’s Law,” Kanna told IraqiNews.com news agency, describing the approval as “an interpretation of the rights of the Chaldo-Syriac-Assyrian people, confirmed by the Iraqi Constitution.”   Kanna said the approval “shall support the Syriac Culture, considered as once of the most genuine cultures forming the Iraqi Culture, as well as teaching in the mother-tongue of that people, shall contribute in developing the Syriac schools and develop the students programs.”   The Legislature, Younadim Kanna, had demanded earlier the consideration of the Syriac Language as a third official language in the Iraqi Constitution, after the Arabic and the Kurdish languages, and the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year as an official holiday in Iraq .   SKH (IT)   538
