Tribal sheikhs hit demonstrators with sticks

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Eye witnesses in Tahreer square said that a number of tribal sheikhs attacked young demonstrators. The eye witness told IraqiNews.com that the sheikhs hit the demonstrators with sticks they were carrying, in addition to punching and kicking them. The sheikhs demanded in their slogans for the execution of those responsible for the wedding massacre of 2006. Another source said to IraqiNews.com that the sheikhs turned their slogans to defend Premier Nouri al-Maliki. In Tahreer square, the first demonstration was held following the end of the 100 days stipulated by Premier Maliki to evaluate the work of his government and the provinces.
