93 ancient pieces discovered in Erbil

Erbil (IraqiNews.com) The Directorate of Erbil Ruins announced “Discovering [93] ancient pieces dating back to the Assyrian, Sassanid and Mitanni Ages.

The director of Erbil Ruins Department, Haider Hassan, said in a press conference held today that “These pieces were found during the survey of 1,200 archaeological areas within the province of Erbil in Kurdistan Region, carried out by the Directorate of Erbil Ruins in collaboration with American, Canadian, French and Dutch archaeologists.”

He added that “This survey is an international project that lasted for a month and included exploration and disclosure process of relics in areas of Shmamk and Coeur.”

Hassan pointed out that “This survey is a first step in Survey activities that will take place in Erbil and its suburbs where exploration teams will continue their work to reveal more of archeological sites because this region is famous for being historically and culturally rich of civilizations.”

He pointed that “Erbil Ruins Directorate agreed with Harvard University to explore and detect archaeological sites in this area for five years.”
