Babel PC sets plan to lift trespassing on Babylon city

Babel (IraqiNews.com) A member in Babel Provincial Council declared about a plan to lift the trespassing on the ancient city of Babylon.

The member in Babel PC Salim al-Mislimawi said to (IraqiNews.com) “Babel Provincial Council set a plan to lift the violations done by the citizens on Babylon ancient city and the spaces related to it which have not been excavated up till now,” noting that “The local government acquired about (39) acres at a cost of IQD 2 billion.”

Misilimawi added “There is also a plan to coordinate with international organizations to excavate in the areas which belong to the ancient city.”

The head of the General Commission for Antiques and Heritage Qais Hussein has said “The Ministry of Oil has trespassed on the ancient city in Babel by extending oil pipeline and this will affect the inclusion of this city on the world heritage list.”
