Child killed as Iraqi mourners shoot in salutation, honoring deceased’s wish

Dhi Qar (IraqiNews.com) One child was killed and another was wounded in southern Iraq when mourners fired salutation shots during a funeral as per the deceased’s will.
Alghad Press quoted eyewitnesses saying that one nine-year-old child was killed and another 11-year-old was critically wounded by mistake during a funeral of an 80-year-old citizen in Al-Hassan village in Dhi Qar province.
“The deceased, in his will, has emphasized on firing salutation rounds during his funeral,” said the witnesses.
Violence and armed conflicts left 824 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of May, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths.
