Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Dozens of displaced Iraqis have returned home from a refugee camp in neighboring Syria, the Iraqi Migration and Displacement Ministry declared on Monday.

The ministry said it received 376 Iraqis returning from al-Houl refugee camp in Syria’s Hassaka province.

Shafaq News website quoted ministry official Ali Abbas Jahakir saying  that those were sheltered at Jaddaa camp, south of Iraq’s Nineveh provjnce.

Thousands of Iraqis in Nineveh had fled to the Syrian camp after Islamic State militants swept a third of Iraqi territories in 2014 to establish  a self-proclaimed “caliphate”.

Iraq’s war to drive Islamic State militants out had forced nearly five million to flee homes to areas both inside and outside Iraq. The United Nations said recently that displacement numbers had dropped to two million people.
