BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – Iraq’s February 15 th Media Movement, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, the Iraqi Society for Defense of Journalists Rights and the 28 th Group for Democracy and Change, have decided to wage an open sit-in demonstration in front of Baghdad Provincial Council next Monday, demanding the resignation of its Chairman, Kamel al-Zaidy, charging him with having failed to respond to the demands of Baghdad citizens for public services.   “At the time when our dear Iraq is witnessing demonstrations, from its north to south and east to west, demanding public services and the improvement of the living standards of citizens, our Movement had formed a media observation committee to watch the reasons of failure in the institutions and executive offices in Baghdad,” the Movement said in a statement, received by IraqiNews.com news agency on Wednesday.   It said the agreement was concluded with the Chairman of Baghdad Province’s Chairman, Kamel al-Zaidy, followed by the beginning of the activity to observe hundreds of violations, along with discovering the reasons behind those violations, especially the administrative and financial corruption.   “The Committee had gathered many documents and photographs, showing the size of ignorance and corruption in the majority of service and executive institutions and offices in Baghdad, planning to hand them over to Zaidy, according to the agreement that took place in the headquarters of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate,” the statement pointed out.   “But,” the statement charged Zaidy with having failed to commit himself towards the said agreement, refusing to receive the reports, documents and photographs, under ”his claim with being too busy.”   “Zaidy has to force himself to go to the street, in order to listen to thousands of calls for his resignation. Thus, our media organizations, who held their meeting at the headquarters of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, have decided to carry out a sit-in demonstration, to be attended by thousands of their members, in front of the Baghdad Province’s Council next Monday, till the achievement of their demands for the resignation of Kamel al-Zaidy from his position,” the statement said.   The statement also said that the “media organizations that would attend the sit-in demonstration, shall demand Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, “being a respectful patriotic personality, fighting corruption and corruptive elements, to force the Chairman of Baghdad Province Council’s Chairman, to resign, because of his failure to implement the commitments he gave to the media men and journalists to improve the service conditions in Baghdad.” BAGHDAD and several other Iraqi provinces had witnessed broad demonstrations over the past few weeks, demanding the improvement of service and living conditions, especially the achievement of the ingredients included in the government’s Rational Card, putting an end for unemployment and to settle the problem of electric power cuts.   FT / SKH       817 .
