Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Thursday the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi denied that a draft law was issued in relation to the formation of local national guards but said all political blocs have agreed to pursue it.

In a press conference attended by IraqiNews.com Abadi said, “The formation of provincial national guards from the local residents of Iraqi governorates has been agreed on among all political blocs.”

“We’re committed to create a security system of three elements – Army, Police and local armed forces, known as National Guards, which will formed in every province to defend the people and the land.”

“A draft law hasn’t yet been sent to the parliament in regards to the project, but is to be made.”

“It is necessary that the central government will hold a higher authority over the national guards, so as not to fan the flames between Iraqi regions.” He said.
