Iraqi President Barham Salih meets U.S. Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State James Jeffrey and his accompanying delegation in Iraq.

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi President Barham Salih reiterated on Monday Iraq’s keenness to expand the horizons of joint cooperation with the U.S., particularly in the security field.

The president made the remarks during a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State James Jeffrey and his accompanying delegation in the city of Sulaymaniyah, Alghad Press quoted Salih’s media office said in a press statement.

“The meeting reviewed the latest political and security developments at the Arab and regional levels and stressed the need to achieve peace and stability and find solutions to the Mideast crises and conflicts,” the statement read.

“Iraq is keen to expand the horizons of joint cooperation with the U.S. in all fields,” Salih said, stressing the importance of promoting coordination between the two sides at the security and political levels.

He also praised “the support provided by the U.S. for Iraq in various fields, especially in the war against terrorism and the reconstruction of the destructed areas.”

For his part, Jeffrey reiterated his country’s determination to “continue its support for Iraq and help it achieve progress in all arenas and restore its leading role in the region.”
