Kuwait City (IraqiNews.com) – Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah started on Wednesday an official visit to Iraq on top of a high-level delegation.

The Kuwaiti emir is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Khaled Al-Saleh, and others.

During his visit, the Kuwaiti delegation is scheduled to hold talks with Iraqi officials, topped by President Barham Saleh and Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi, on means of promoting relations between the two Arab countries and recent regional and international developments.

It is the second visit for the Kuwaiti emir to Iraq, with the first being in March 2012 when he headed the Kuwaiti delegation in the Arab Summit in Baghdad.

The visit comes as tension is rising in the region, especially with the recent attacks on oil tankers and commercial ships in Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Although the Kuwaiti-Iraqi ties were severed for years as a result of the Iraqi invasion and occupation in 1990, the Kuwaiti emir exerted strenuous efforts to resume his country’s ties with Iraq and boost their relations at all levels.
