Maysan needs five times of provided power to solve electricity crisis, says official

Maysan (IraqiNews.com) A member in Maysan Provincial Council announced that “The province is in need of (500) MW of electric power to ensure providing the citizens with the required hours of electricity power per day.” The head of Investment Commission in Maysan PC, Mohsen al-Bekhati said “Maysan needs (500) MW, while the actual production now is (100) MW, which means that the province needs five times the current provided power to meet its need of electricity.” “Maysan shortage of electricity can be solved by granting the local government authorities to open doors for investments or contracting with the Iranian side directly without going through administrative complexities with Baghdad,” he added. For his part, the Deputy Chairman of Energy Committee in Maysan PC Latif Aboud stated “The PC decided to supply the owners of the private local power generators with free gasoline in addition to opening the door to grant them loans to buy new electric generators in order to supply the citizens there with power for 10 hours per day.”
