Mufti of Iraq: We are not stupid to fight ISIS

The mufti of Iraq, Sheikh Rafie al-Rifai

(IraqiNews.com) The mufti of Iraq, Sheikh Rafie al-Rifai renewed his criticism to the Iraqi government, wondering what could push the Sunnis to fight the organization of the Islamic State with the risk of dying at the hands of Shiite militias ,who are fighting alongside the regular army.

Rifai said during an interview with the Egyptian channel ‘Balad’ that, “The government demanded the people of Anbar to fight terrorism,” and wondered, “Why should we fight ISIS terrorism? So the Iranian Revolutionary Guards—who lead the operations now in the Iraq—can control it? They prevented the people of Jurf Al Sakhr from returning to their homes, swept away orchards, mosques and homes, and separated families.”

Rifai added, “Are we supposed to oust ISIS so militia come rape our honor? We went out against the state. If the state want the Iraqis to stand together, it has to achieve justice…We are not linked with ISIS, but not stupid to open an internal front for militias to slaughters us.”
