Ankara (IraqiNews.com) – The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned Acting Iraqi Ambassador in Ankara Essam Mohammad to inform him that Turkey would continue its operations against the PKK terrorists in northern Iraq.

The charge d’affaires of the Iraqi embassy in Ankara had been informed that the statement issued by the Iraqi side Saturday on allegations of civilian casualties during Turkey’s operations against the PKK was not acceptable, spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry Hami Aksoy said.

The spokesman pointed out that the Iraqi Kurdistan authorities held the PKK organization responsible for the operation carried out within the regions of the territory, while the federal government in Baghdad neglected this matter.

The federal government’s statement does not reflect positive momentum in relations between the two countries through high-level visits in the recent period, Aksoy said.

“Turkey respects the sovereignty of Iraq, so Baghdad should not allow the presence of terrorists on its territory,” the statement concluded.
