 UNICEF: Violence deprives 2 million Iraqi children of education

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced, that the violence in Iraq has deprived millions of children of the decent education and health care that represent the basic humanitarian priority for the country in 2016.

UNICEF stated, that more than two million Iraqi children were deprived of education due to the war, while nearly one in five schools cannot be used because they have been destroyed, damaged, converted to shelter for displaced families or used for military purposes.

In addition, Peter Hawkins, UNICEF representative in Iraq warned of the risk of losing an entire generation due to the lack of education, health and protection, while added that UNICEF has vaccinated up to 600 thousand children against measles and polio in 2015.
