(IraqiNews.com) On Friday, the United States of America described the transition of the outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, to his successor, Haider al-Abadi, as “a historic and peaceful transition of power in Iraq.”

The Turkish Anatolia news agency quoted on the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry as saying, “We applaud the important and honorable decision of the outgoing Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to support the designated Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi in his efforts to form a new government, as well as to develop a national program in line with the schedule of the Iraqi constitution.”

Kerry considered that “this decision provides for the historic and peaceful transition of power in Iraq.”

Maliki declared on Thursday (14 August 2014) his support for designated Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, and the withdrawal of the lawsuit he had brought against the President Fuad Masum through the Iraqi Supreme Federal Court.
