2 arrested, IED defused in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: A joint Iraqi-U.S. force on Monday captured a suspect and a wanted man in a search raid in western Kirkuk, a senior security official in the city said. “The Iraqi police, backed by Multi-National Force (MNF) troops, conducted a search raid in the area of al-Amal al-Shaabi, (5 km) western Kirkuk, arresting a suspect and a man wanted by security agencies,” Brig. Sarhad Qader, the chief of the Kirkuk Districts’ Police Department, told IraqiNews.com. Meanwhile, Qader added, an improvised explosive device (IED) was defused near the Mullah Abdullah residential compound in the district of al-Multaqa, (30 km) northwest of Kirkuk, without incident. “Policemen in the district of Shawan, (30 km) north of Kirkuk, seized a weapons cache containing several mortar shells that date back to the former Iraqi army,” he said.
