23 volunteer fighters killed, injured in two suicide bombings southwest of Samarra

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A source within Salahuddin police announced Wednesday that 23 elements of the volunteer fighters forces (al-Hashd al-Sha’bi) had been either killed or wounded in two suicide bombings southwest of Samarra.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “A car bomb driven by a suicide bomber exploded today at Watban street southwest of Samarra (40 km south of Tikrit), followed by another suicide bomb with explosives, which resulted in killing 5 volunteer fighter and wounding 18 others.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “Violent clashes between the security forces backed by the volunteer fighters and ISIS elements broke out afterwards,” adding that ambulances rushed to the scene to transport the injured to a nearby hospital and the bodies of the dead to the Forensic Medicine Authority.
